Two-thirds of South Africans believe that corruption has increased in the past year, and half (49%) believe that it has “increased a lot.” Furthermore, a survey shows that people not only think that corruption has gotten worse under Ramaphosa, but also recognize that a large part of the elected officials and civil servants, who should be fighting corruption, are involved in corrupt activities themselves.

The SONA speech reflected the truth of the matter – Ramaphosa, the EFF and Bantu have squandered their chance. After a quarter of a century, Bantu are still living in the past, constantly rewriting it, as they take the country even further backwards. The first impression is of a circus, where red clad laughing clowns were joyfully playing and holding up the rest of the circus from getting underway. Secondly, there was a distinct feel of a Matric Dance or Prom to the whole affair, with some very infantile overdressed children with too much money to spend, roleplaying, trying to impress themselves each other. Only, most of them never even made Matric! There was certainly no feeling at all of a solemn reflection of a deeply bankrupt country in crisis.

From your toilet to your tap and back again:- The future of water

Water bursts from a brass spout with violent urgency. It foams through the tap angrily and on to a sprawling field. The stream fans out, forming veins that meet swampy arteries carved by footpaths in the grass.
After some time, a mother bearing a baby on her back approaches, swinging a plastic bucket. A bit later, three children holding empty Coke bottles wobble towards the tap across a wooden plank placed over the constantly churned earth.
